Transwest offers dump trailers in three configurations: end dump, bottom dump, and side dump. End dump trailers are used to haul heavy loads and difficult cargo such as large demolition debris in the construction industry. Bottom dump trailers are often used in construction for precise unloading and typically haul road materials. Side dump trailers are also used when precise unloading is necessary, using hydraulics to tilt the trailer left or right to unload.
Dump trailers are most frequently purchased by our customers in the construction and demolition industries. They require rugged, precise equipment to handle rigorous jobs at their sites. Dump trailers play an important role in stockpiling, asphalt laying, and transport of bulk heavy materials such as sand, crushed stone, gravel, and dirt.
No matter your company’s current dump trailer needs, Transwest has the experience to help you get the equipment you need quickly. Our knowledgeable and friendly staff can advise you on the financing and purchase options available, and they’re ready to give you a tour of the options that are on-site so you know exactly what you’re purchasing. With heavy-duty, specialized equipment, it’s important to get the right information and have certified technicians working on any repairs or maintenance. That is what you always get when working with Transwest.
As the name indicates, these dump trailers empty materials through a gate at the rear of the vehicle. End dump trailers use hydraulics to lift the front of the trailer, making it easier for materials to slide from front to rear when unloading. In addition, end dump trailers allow for greater loads than standard dump trucks. To accomplish this feat, end dump trailers employ a heavy-duty side construction that maintains its toughness over the course of the trailer’s lifetime.
One thing to note about end dump trailers, however, is that they can become unstable when the end is lifted, depending on the size of the load and the surface that the trailer is unloading onto. It’s essential that end dump trailer operators are well-trained in safety procedures to avoid any accidents.
Bottom dump trailers are built with a clamshell dump gate on the bottom of the trailer, allowing the two halves to open and empty the load, sometimes while the trailer is still moving. The clamshell can open to a specified window size front-to-back or side-to-side. At a construction site, this allows for efficient unloading of materials or stockpiles in a long, clean pattern, which can then be moved by other dozers or loaders.
The continuous stream of material made possible with a bottom dump trailer is particularly useful when laying asphalt. Avoiding any seams in the material, a large bottom dump trailer or a series of trailers greatly improves the quality of the road surface. Bottom dump trailers are also frequently used for road base delivery, which consists of crushed rock.
A side dump trailer uses hydraulics to help unload the trailer. Hydraulic rams tilt the trailer either to the left of the right to unload. The advantage of this type of dump trailer is that it remains more stable during unloading than an end dump trailer, which requires the operator to carefully consider the surface conditions.
These dump trailers are able to precisely unload materials in a window, similar to bottom dump trailers. Side dump trailers are often used in site preparation tasks at construction sites but are also employed for demolition and debris hauling as well as gravel, dirt, and sand hauling.
