New Horse Trailer
For the biggest decisions in your horse and livestock business, Transwest is proud to offer a full line of light-duty horse trailers from the best brands in trailer manufacturing. Our living quarters horse trailers provide you with the convenience and comfort of home so you can stay on location with your horses at shows and events. If you are on a budget or need extra headroom for your horses, our non-living quarters trailers are the perfect choice.
Need to haul more than four horses at once? At Transwest, we’re proud to carry 4-horse trailers, 5-horse trailers, 6-horse trailers, 7-horse trailers, and even 8-horse trailers. They come in a gooseneck towing style, which gives them a high weight capacity for your horses and exceptional towing stability on the road. The added space in the front of the trailer provides extra storage for your equipment – and, in units with living quarters, ample sleeping space.
At Transwest, we are here to support you on your equestrian adventures, and that means keeping your trailer in peak condition at all times. We offer trailer maintenance, repairs, and installations to keep your trailer on the road. We are also a proud distributor of trailer parts and accessories including hitches, Trailer Saver products, Dexter axles, Bull Dog products, Firestone air springs, Tekonsha brake controllers, Equalizer electric jacks, and much more.
Finally, we offer a variety of trusted financing plans to accommodate every situation and budget. If you have any questions or want to get started, simply give us a call today for all your 5-horse trailer to 8-horse trailer needs.
While most horse trailers come in both gooseneck and bumper pull styles, trailers that are made to carry 5 or more horses are usually built in a gooseneck style. This is because gooseneck trailers have a stronger hitching system that gives them a higher weight capacity than bumper pull or tagalong trailers. If you take your horses to shows and events frequently, a living quarters trailer may be a good option. These trailers can help you cut down on the cost of motels on the road while providing the convenience of having a bed at all times.
Finally, no matter how many horses you are hauling, you should always choose a trailer that has enough space for your horses to stand comfortably without shifting around during the trip.
A 6 horse trailer typically measures anywhere from 27 ft. to 36 ft. long. Most models will have doors and ramps on the back or sides to load the horses. If you have larger horses, you will likely need a longer trailer. You can probably get away with a smaller trailer size if your horses are short.
Horse comfort and safety should always be your top priority when choosing a new trailer, so make sure to take stock of your horses’ measurements. Also, consider the sizes of any other horses you may have in the future. Each horse should have enough room in its stall to be able to stand without ducking its head.
Although you do not want the stalls to be so spacious that your horses are sliding around when the trailer is in motion, it is always better to leave a little extra headroom than to scrunch your horses into a small area.
A horse should have enough space to stand and stretch its neck normally and move its legs for balance. However, it should not have so much space that it can turn completely around in its stall or shift around during a drive. Typically, your horse should have about 3 - 6 in. of space on either side of its stall. If your horse is 16 hands, the trailer should be at least 7 ft. tall. For horses that are 17 hands, the trailer should be 7 ft. 6 in. tall.
That height should go up to 7 ft. 10 in. to accommodate horses that are 18 hands or above. The safety and comfort of your horse should be your top concern when purchasing a trailer. As you know, keeping your horse safe during transit is important for their health.
Before taking your horses on a long-distance trip, schedule a visit with the vet to make sure your horse is healthy and current on all vaccines. You may need to bring a certification of health if you are traveling across state lines. Some states have additional requirements, depending on diseases that are going around, so make sure you check on any current regulations.
Also, have a qualified mechanic look over your towing vehicle and your horse trailer to ensure that both are in excellent working condition. Once on the road, stop your trailer at regular intervals to check on your horses and give them time to stretch. It can be stressful for horses to make long journeys, so it’s important that you give them a break from the moving vehicle at least every 4 hours.
For most trailer brands, a warmblood size trailer has an inside height of 7 ft. 6 in. Typically, warmblood trailers are straight load, as they are built to accommodate larger horses. While some slant load trailers can fit large horses, they tend to be built for smaller horses, as the slant makes it more difficult for horses over 16 hands to fit.
When searching for a warmblood trailer, make sure to check that the height, width, length, and stall size will be a comfortable fit for all your horses. Horses should have enough room in their stalls to stretch, move their necks, and adjust their legs for balance, but they should not have so much space that they slide or turn around when the trailer is in motion.
Buying a 6 horse trailer was a big business decision. I was in good hands with Transwest, and they took their time to answer all my questions along the way.

The living quarters trailer is ideal for anyone who is looking for a comfortable home away from home, and it can save you expensive hotel costs on the road. Non-living quarters horse trailers have more space inside for gear, dressing areas, and storage space. They’re perfect for quick trips and offer a convenient way to transport your horse.
